Interesting article about using a self-assembling latice of nanoscale
spheres to increase the surface area of the active battery materials.

They tested the technique with both Li-ion and NiMH batteries and were
able to achieve charge/discharge rates from 10 to 100 times faster than
conventionally manufactured cells. Apparently the processes involved
are already being used in large scale production so in theory this
technology could be moved to market relatively quickly...
