[NSRCA-discussion] A lighthearted request

To the original poster....I'll add another game changer: Merle Hyde's rubber isolation mount. There were a couple other ideas for isolating engine vibration from the ever lighter airframes, but none were as viable. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that this invention enabled Pattern as we know it today.

Of course, E-power has possibly obsoleted the rotational soft mount, but that development does not detract from the importance of the Hyde soft mount in Pattern.

Yet another important development was the advent of thin, lightweight balsa use as core material in composites. The synnergy of glass and balsa turned out to be just right for model use in this size

regards

Matt K

Absolutely - that's actually where the term "pattern" came from as "patterns" were flown in a horizontal plane that depicted 8's, procedure turns, traffic patterns, etc. with rudder only escapement models.

Now that I have picked myself up off the floor.

I would - seriously - like to ask if Pattern was ever flown with single channel escapements.

I don't mean to speak for Van Putte, but I'm sure the invention of "air" ranks pretty high up there.

I was wondering if some of you would help me out with a future MA R/C Aerobatics column.

With the Pattern Nationals at our doorstep, in retrospect, I'll like to hear what you feel have been some of the pattern equipment "Game Changers" during the years pass. The biggest one I can think of is proportional radios; but, this only my second year flying pattern.

Thank you
