I just sent mine in yesterday.  I had a similar concern, and called the AMA to see if it would be better to register on the phone.  They will let you register on the phone if you don't mind giving them CC info that way.  I sent mine with a check anyway, since I was assured that they give you a few days slack.  Probably safest to just register on the phone at this point.
