[NSRCA-discussion] Servos - Again

Tim,

The HV JR servos are overkill for pattern...not needed.

9411 or 8411 on aileron
8411 or 8611A on rudder
3517 (faster) or 3421 for stab mounted elevator servos

I favor the 8417 for a single elevator servo, if it has indeed been
discontinued, then 9411 or 8411.

For all servos for pattern applications, I prefer the nylon geartrains -
tighter, wear less, and lighter.

Regards,

Dave Lockhart, Team Horizon/JR

Airtronics is another option. I've just never used them, so I have even less
of an idea in terms of servo series/numbers for comparison.

Are the HV versions of the JR servos really that much better? They are
$50-$60 more than the original SA's I remember. I'm not running native Li-Po
power, so I don't need the HV option, but there seems to be very little else
from JR? Or is my local supplier just not carrying it?

To add to that, I would no longer be "afraid" of metal gear servos. The
tolerances have gotten much much tighter to where the "slop" factor is no
long of concern. Just my opinion, but I think the Nylon only approach has
past it's day.

I'd also be remiss not to suggest you look at Airtronics servos if you're
looking at all brands. They have an entire new line of affordable digitals
to choose from, as well as the high end line of digitals.

Tim,

Here are the list of JR servos the were popular so far.

Ailerons : DS9411
Dual Elevator servos : DS3421
Single Elevator servo : DS8231 (plastic gear). DS8417 has been
discontinued.
Rudder : DS8611

All the above are metal gears. JR has discontinued all SA servos. If you
need plastic/resin geared servos, you will need JRPSG321 and JRPSG911 to
convert them to metal output with plastic gears.

You can also substitute DS8611 with DS8411 which can use JRPSG8101 to make
it 8411SA.

Hope this helps,

Ihncheol
