And the heavier plane will have detriments as well....
- slower control response
- narrower speed range
- greater AOA to fly
- more horsepower needed

In most instance when a "heavier" plane is thought to perform better, it is
not the added weight, but the resultant higher wingloading - ie, don't add
weight, remove wing.....smaller wings has been the trend in recent years.

The additional weight could be an advantage in windier weather.  A heavier
plane should not buffet around as much in turbulent air.
