I am saddened to report that long-time District 7 member and pattern flyer, Jim
Brown, passed away on Monday, August 16th after a long bout with cancer. Jim was
a fixture on the Dist 7 pattern scene for many, many years. He traveled to all
the contests faithfully in northern and southern california. I recall traveling
with Jim to Gardnerville a couple of years ago when driving thru the Mammoth
area with rain pouring down. I asked Jim: "Hey... you think it may be a good
idea to turn on the windshield wipers???.... Jim's response: "I can see!!!"
Another time traveling with going north on the 5 Freeway traveling to the
Hollister contest, Jim was driving making sure not to exceed the 65 mile speed
limit...while in the fast lane! Never moving and cars passing by flipping us the
bird! Jim's response: "let them go around!" when I asked "shouldn't you move
over to the right lane?"... I have many fun memories of Jim who could as you can
tell be a stuborn geezer, but we loved him just as he was. Jim, you will be
missed. Keep your wings level and stay in the box.
