I would definitely suppoort that event. We had a huge gap in D4 contests this year (almost 2 months between losses if memory serves). I know that was due to a scheduling anomaly, but it would still be nice to have another D4 contest, particularly if some of the other districts can join the fun.

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] New Contest - Looking for Interest (D3, 4, and 5)

I’m looking for interest regarding a new D4 contest in 2010. I don’t have any dates in mind and have not discussed this with the flying club at this point. I have had conversations with some key folks and believe the club members will support it. They tried a pattern type primer before I was a member so I know there is some interest for locals in Sportsman.

The flying field is located at:
38.038915,-87.47304
Cut and paste to Google Maps and look at the satellite view.

There is a club meeting in a week or so. If there is interest, I will bring it up at the club meeting and get it going.

I have CD’d a couple of contests in Jasper, Indiana and had a fair turnout w/ positive feedback.

Pro’s:
1)      Located in Evansville , Indiana . Center stage at the corner of D3, D4, and D5.
2)      The runway is 500ft concrete with a wide grass runway outside of it.
3)      Contest Date could possibly be scheduled with other event(s) that may interest those that attend.
4)      I would be willing to sanction for FAI if even one pilot shows interest in the FAI class.
5)      Field is less than 3 miles off I-164 (to actually drive your car to get there…vbg).
6)      This flying site was the location for the AMA Grand Event in 2004.
7)      Club membership is about 150 strong.
8)      110AC power available at the field for those flying electrics.

Con’s:
1)      Runway runs North / South
2)      Pilot line faces east.
3)      Contest start would not be earlier than 10:30am for first round.
4)      Trees are located ~170 meters out and are about 40ft tall (not necessary a problem just want it known)

I have been a member of this club since late 2005/ early 2006. Very nice people and very willing to help and most will land and watch me fly pattern albeit very rough attempts…Yes there is some heckling, but earned on my part.

For those that will attend, I promise you will not be disappointed.

You may respond off-line if you wish.
