[NSRCA-discussion] Ed Deaver's passing

Carolyn and I will miss Ed very much. He was a friendly guy, and always willing to help out no matter what. He could talk pattern with anybody, switch to IMAC, talk about cooking, philosophy, building and just about anything else. We have many pictures of Ed sitting around enjoying the company and camaraderie of others: pilots, spouses, children; whoever was there and was talking, Ed joined in.

He resurrected the Lubbock contest when it was in danger of failing, and always seemed to be able to find a wonderful venue for the contest in spite of constantly changing conditions. And he could (and did) work with the club and its members to make the contest easy and fun for the pilots - we didn't have to do very much except fly, talk, judge, talk, fly,...!

Ed's sportsmanship was second to none; he was a helper, mentor, competitor, promoter and ambassador of pattern as well as an all-around nice, gentle man. We will miss him.

I'm sad to report that Ed Deaver passed away this morning at 4:50am after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. It was first symptomatic last February but not diagnosed until Memorial Day 08. He actually flew RC with us up until about a month ago when the ravages of the disease just made him to weak.

He was with his family and friends at the time of his passing. He was a master builder and avid pattern/IMAC pilot in the Master's classes. He will be truly missed by everyone! Not sure about the funeral arrangements yet...
