A 5000 gm standard weight is used to determine how the scales are
performing. The scales normally weigh heavy by 25 to 50 grams. As
an example, if the standard 5000 gram weight "weighs" 5036 grams on
the scales, an airplane which "weighs" 5036 grams or less is acceptable.
