[NSRCA-discussion] FW: Futaba vs. JR

No prize table at the TOC. We got shirts, hats and bags for the contestants
and officials and had free room and board. But in all the years I was an
official I never saw Mr. Bill give out radios. He stuck with prize money
for the contestants. And nice trophies for the finalists.

Inasmuch as Mr. Bennett was a long-time owner of Circus Hobbies, and a large
investor in JR, hard to believe that he would be interested in promoting
Futaba. As a long time resident of Las Vegas, and a constant attendee of
the TOC, I can't recall ever seeing a prize table, per se. Not to say it
didn't exist, but it wasn't obvious enough to attract my attention. Perhaps
Mr. Bennett figured that the $4500 minimum show-up money was enough
incentive.

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking Futaba gave two radios with gobs of
servos to many of the invitees--and I'm fairly sure Futaba was on the podium
with most of the winners most of the time. Somebody correct me if I'm
wrong.

Gotta go Airtronics! Especially now that I've seen the new 10channel 2.4
(small plug!)

Futaba supported the TOC?? Didn't Bill Bennett, aka owner of Circus Circus
Hobbies (and the hotel/casino) and primary importer of JR create/sponsor
the TOC? Just making sure my history is correct...

I am on my forth, 4th generation Futaba--just got an MZ (was going to do it
a couple years sooner--but I didn't know how my back problems were going to
work out) and the more I mess with it, the more I think I'm going to like
it--a little intimidating at first....not so bad once you get in to it..
I probably became a fan as Futaba supported the TOC and pattern fairly well
early on--JR seemed to be almost an 'also ran' at the time. Obviously they
make excellent radios now and are well thought of in the KC area. Now I
think of it as a Ford/GM sort of comparison--er, Honda/Toyota...
