[NSRCA-discussion] Futaba Servos

Dave,

In 2004 I ran a Lazulite and started with 9650's on ailerons. The plane never really trimmed well. I then moved to the 9150 (80'ish) ounces of torque. The plane instantly flew better. I then moved to the 9151, and this remained my aileron servo of choice for 5 years, only switching this year to the BLS451. Brushless is clearly the direction the technology is going. 9650's are great servos and I've been using them a long time on elevators and throttle.

Jerry and Tony helped me a lot at that time for sure. Regarding speed and torque of servos (on airplanes), I will always take torque over speed. By the time you use expos and reduced rates, short arms, long control rods, speed sort of falls out of the equation compared to torque (IMHO).
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks for the responses guys. I have a couple of JR 9411 SA for the
ailerons to swap out but was looking for something even lighter if they
would work. I need to get about 4-5 oz. Out of this bird.

I've flown the same design plane, one with 9650's and the other with 9151's,
and there was a difference. The one with the 51's was a
much better (predictable) snapping plane. The 50's were speed sensitive
(downlines were never the same).

Andrew is right about the low profile Futaba's. I was running the BL-551,
1.6oz,
(http://www.futaba-rc.com/servos/brushlessservos.html) in my Integrals and
now in my Valiant. The 9551, 1.6oz,
(http://www.futaba-rc.com/servos/digitalservos.html) is the non-brushless
version (that Andrew was running in his Integrals). The JR
9411 will also work fine, I just don't have experience with them.

Jason
