The pilot was Tex Johnston. I actually met him at the 1984 Reno Air  
Races. Straight from the man himself, he was never fired. Bill Allen  
called him into his office and asked if it was true that he had rolled  
the Dash-80. Tex replied that he had, to which Allen replied "Don't  
ever do it again..."

Allen then asked what the hell he thought he was doing? Johnston  
replied "selling airplanes!"
