The Temple aeromodelers in Temple, TX have a solar powered system at their
field as well. Was a really neat setup and works well.

Is anyone aware of an RC club that has implemented a solar powered charging
station for electric fliers ? My club has strongly supported the concept,
voted to approve funds, and I would like to get hard data and experience
from others on several system items.

Two of our electric fliers/engineers have designed what they believe will be
a scalable system, borrowing from their experience in powering wireless base
stations and other similar applications. I wanted to compare their numbers
to any hard experience from RC users.

We lack good data on typical use per pilot. Our club is not all that Pattern
heavy, but does have many electric fliers using 3s-4s packs in say the sub
4000 Mah size. For the most part, these systems power planes typically
smaller than 40 size. Were I to guess, Eflite 480 size may be .typical or
say average size plane.

Any data and experience would be appreciated. Need data on :

a) the number of anticipated electric pilots and expected average weekly
capacity used per pilot from existing solar powered systems

b) the size & type of the battery (deep cycle) used to store power - e.g.
number of Mah and type - wet cell, gel cell or AGM, and the typical max
discharge % anticipated;

c) - the recharge time (days or hours) to recharge the storage battery from
normal max use drawdown;

d) the number and size of the solar panels used; and power output (amps) at
say 16-17v range

e) the capacity of the charge controller used.

offline replies welcomed too - skitimberlakespartava at yahoo.com

thanks
