Being in the security / access control systems business, I feel the need to respond to this. Yes, it's all hype. The programming on the cards is nothing more than an access code and expiration date. The reader in the door opens the lock based on this, and if there is any other validation done on the system (i.e. charges to a room, credit approval, age verification, etc.) the reader transmits the info back to the controller card which in turn sends it to a computer system for validation. The info contained on the card itself is pretty much useless.
 
Now as far as the shower cameras, well, THAT'S a different story! <grin>

There isn't, the box they use to program the cards is a stand-alone box.

Now the cameras in the hotel's showers, that's a totally different story. . .

I'm forwarding this because we stay in motels/hotels so often at contests.  Has anybody heard of this, or is it another one of these "The sky is falling" things so prevalent on the internet?
