Ok ... So riddle me this then. 
There are three "to's" in the english language. To, Too, and Two.  Which one should I have used in the previous sentence?

Is there general rule that would apply to all homophones?

oxymoron - A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined, as in a deafening silence and a mournful optimist. 
  
I don't think that the term oxymoron applies due to the use of the word "and"... And if we ever meet, I can give you the proper pronunciation... and no, the last part of the word is not pronounced like the word "moron"...
