Most of you probably have already discovered how useful the Great Planes
sanding bars are as straight edges, especially the long ones. The sandpaper
prevents them from squirming around when trimming the edges of sheet
material and the handle prevents cut fingers if the knife blade catches and
comes up over the edge. Great tool, I use the 44" bar more as a straight
edge than a sanding bar.
