You guys are all doing it the hard way. Dawn makes a product for cleaning
pots, available at your local grocery store or Ace hardware, that works
great - no heat required.

I like the paint remover that is available at auto parts stores.  It  
is called Aircraft Remover.
It's formulated to be compatible with aluminum airplane skins, so it  
doesn't hurt aluminum engine parts.
