[NSRCA-discussion] Regulator

For the JR stuff...I've been running redundant power systems for many years
now..never had a problem with NiXX 5 cell packs unregulated or lipos
regulated to 6.53 volts (Tech Aero Vregs).

Jay,

What servos are you running? If you are flying Futaba, ALL of their servos
will work fine on 6.1V or higher. They recommend 4.8 on some of their heli
servos as the Gyro only runs on 4.8, but all of their digitals will work,
including the heli ones on 6.1V or a little higher. I personally regulate
all my stuff to 6.5V and never had a problem with any of them,

Any other brands I can't speak for.

Arch

Team Futaba

I would still need regulators to keep a bad pack/wiring/switch from taking
down the whole system; this is the real reason for a dual battery setup. In
addition, I think the servos I have selected are only rated at 4.6V.

Use 2-cell A123 packs. No regulator needed. . . You can get the cells from
a Black & Decker VPX battery packs for about $20 at Wal-Mart. . .

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Now I have to make a decision - but not

The neatest and best system is by Power Box which makes digital

switches with built in regulators.....simple and trouble free. I believe

they make one that is pre made for double batteries. I have the single

battery switch in my pattern plane and like it very much. The switches

cannot be turned on or off by accident. I first saw them in CPLR's

pattern ship. Sold by Chief Aircraft and a couple of other places I can't

recall at the moment.

I plan to use a two battery system on my new plane, probably LiPo. Any
suggestions on regulators?
