Robert,

It is not a bad idea to use two switches so you can check each battery/ 
regulator separately.  With just one switch you might not detect a bad  
regulator or battery.  Having said that, it is unlikely two switches  
would fail at the same time, and most folks already have switch  
harnesses, one might use two standalone regulators and save money.  If  
you plan on using one battery and one switch/regulator you definitely  
want the fail-safe Perfect Switch Harness.  That's what I use.
