[NSRCA-discussion] Small Car - 2 m plane hauling

All valid points. The one thing I can't stand about the Dodge stuff though, and I'm on my 4th and last one now, is that they basically can't get the electrical gremlins out of the car. Every one of mine has acted as if it is haunted in some way. I can explain each of the unique behaviors that my 4 Caravan's have had, but it just shouldn't be so. It's more stuff than is worth going into here, but don't say I didn't warn you. You get what you pay for. Next time, I'm looking at a Mitsubishi.

Another vote for the Caravan. I can honestly say that I love mine too. The mileage figures everyone is claiming are right on. On my trip to the NATs this year I saw 24 - 26 with the A/C on (and I wasn't exactly driving at the speed limit). Around town you get about 18. PLENTY of room. I have Stow-N-Go on mine so I can fold the seats right into the floor. When you do this you can get full 8' sheets of plywood inside the van with the hatch closed.

Add a hitch and you can tow an 18' big block Olds powered Jet boat. Try that with a Prius!
As for the "soccer mom" image - just ride your Harley to work a few days a week to make up for it! LOL

Jim,

      I have the Grand Caravan. Two 2 meter planes are not a problem even with a tent, chair and extra tool boxes. I never thought that I would drive a mini van, but it is actually a pretty nice vehicle to drive all the time. However, the kids I work with call it the " loser cruiser". It's not real sexy, but you get to haul stuff from Home Depot too. Highway mileage is 26 with the A/C on. It's a better value than the Town and Country(but not as nice).

Hi Guys,

I commute about 75 miles a day, then do about 100 miles of driving a weekend for practice so I am on the road a lot. I am thinking to down sizing one of my cars. At this point, I’m thinking about these three:

Scion XB, 28, hwy mileage
Honda Fit, 34, hwy mileage
Chevy HHR, 30 , hwy mileage
$ these around $16,000

Here is a nice website that allows you to do car by car comparisons. http://scionbuyersguide.theautochannel.com/compare_details.php?car1=21667&car2=22687&car3=22711&car4=

OR – is something like the Dodge Grand Caravan the way do go, and that is the biggest bang for the buck?

Any ideas would be great.
Thanks,
Jim
