Used it on elevator for a bunch of years. It isn't particularly fast even on 6 volts and one can feel the lag in response on maneuvers such as snaps. For general all around pattern flying however, the 8231 works fine.
Better alternates would be servos that the JR and Futaba guys suggest to use.... much faster speed (2X) is better on elevator for certain maneuvers. I think it's been stated before that there are very fast heli tail rotor servos that easily fit the elevator task for pattern
