Notes to Self 12

Last we visited our fearless duo they were headed to a not so local hobby
shop to pick up a new Focus 2 for OFB.

"Hey OFB that looks like the guy", I sit back and watch as OFB and the guy
haggle about the airframe and watch as OFB loads the Focus into his truck.
We head into the LHS and do our shopping picking up a few pieces we can use
and some we think we can, only never to be seen again once they hit the work
bench. I swear there's a spot in my shop

If I sit something down it goes into an alternate universe.

On the drive back I ask him how much he paid for the airplane and he tells
me, I about fall out of the truck! 2k for a Focus with a YS1.40FZ and
exhaust, no servos!!!!!!

Now I know my OFB is getting old but dang that seemed like a lot.

The next week Gary Harris calls me and tells me that he has found me a RTF
Focus2

with Hyde mount for 1/3 of what OFB paid so I jump at it. The next weekend
OFB and Pattern King make a short ride to pick up the airplane. Pattern King
decides to order a new YS1.60dz for the focus along with a new header and
pipe.

Fast forward two weeks. Both airplanes are on the flight line ready to
enjoy a long day of blessing the sky with our Pattern Prowess. I test fly
OBF's new airplane and everything is fine and I hand him the controls. OFB
seems to be getting along fine with this new airplane as it's not as fast as
his old one. The 1.40FZ seems to pull well.

I get my new creation out and have a time getting the new 1.60 to run but
finally get it purring like a kitten and off we go. I can tell the big
difference between the two engines as mine has much more power and carves
better through the sequence but I have to use a lot more rudder than I'm
used too. Must be the torque of the engine.

OFB and Pattern king spend the next few weeks flying and having a ball.
Pattern King and the new 1.60 are getting along well. Then it happens, the
1.60 decides to quit way out and low. "&#%&^$%!*$* hope I can make it back
to the field there OFB, "You'll be fine there Pattern King". About that time
Pattern King runs out of air speed, altitude and options all at the same
time. As the Focus lands just short of the run way the right carbon gear
decides to break and fly off the airframe. "Well the airplane is ok but you
really need to learn to land on the runway there PK".

"Well there OFB I guess your right, Remind me to write you out of my will
next week"

Now its OFB's time to fly as PK is done for the day.

The flight proceeds normally and I turn away from OFB to the end of the
run way to pick his up as he's making his approach to land. All of I sudden
I see the airplane dip and start doing the most perfect wing tip to nose to
wing tip to tail landing I've ever seen. I mean parts are flying in every
direction! I've not seen a cloud of balsa, plywood, monokote and such that
big in years!

"Well there OFB what happened"? "I just got disoriented and lost it"
Without thinking I asked "HEY can I have the landing gear?"

Last anyone saw of us that day was OFB chasing PK with a 9303 transmitter
around the field trying to do bodily harm. Man I didn't know a 73 year old
man could run that fast!

Until next time!!!!!!!!!
