[NSRCA-discussion] Are these E-Meter readings OK

You've done nothing wrong mine had good ducting too, the problem is the
internal heat, the case always read normal temps on mine as I watched it
like a hawk.
Like Andrew said it's a good thing you was watching your MAH as it could
have cost you batteries and controller.
Looks like the only option right now is to replace the rotor if you don't
fly all that much it might be the best option now for you.

I certainly would rather not spend the money for another motor right now.
My motor cooling is actually pretty good. Oxai Pinnacle E. The openings in
the cheek cowls are ducted directly to a plastic tube (old container) around
the motor with about 3/16" spacing around the motor and ducted out at the
rear of the motor. It actually stays quite cool.
I wonder if this happened when trying to take off from grass and the plane
nosed over stopping the prop (from low throttle, but as I was advancing it
to start the takeoff).

Thanks,
Stuart

Stuart,
This seems to be a common problem on standard C-50's, particularly if
they're not cooled properly. The comp version has a built-in fan that all
but eliminates the problem and the ducting isn't nearly so critical.

Never mind I answered my own question and pulled it apart. For those
wondering, just pull off the front housing after taking off the gear box and
the rotor pulls out. There is a brass bushing on the rear of the shaft.
That was the only extra piece on mine. (standard C50)

The rotor was cracked. Circumferential about 1/4" from the front end. The
distal part of the rotor had slipped by about 1/8".

And I thought electrics were supposed to be less maintenance :)

Stuart,

 >From the sounds of it I'm thinking that you have a slipped rotor or a
demaged rotor. Normal amps should be in the upper 60's range. I would advise
you not to run the motor until you get it checked out as you have the
possibility to burn up your batteries and speed control. Get a hold of Kyle
at hacker on monday and inform him of your problem to get thoughts.

I have been noticing increased Mah consumption on flights recently. I used
to routinely use 3300 Mah or so for a Masters routine plus a couple of
additional maneuvers. Lately it seemed to be in the upper 3's and today I
hit 4100 Mah. The weather is a bit warmer but not real hot today. Flights
are about 9 min +/- 1 min. In addition the packs seem to be getting
hotter. Today they were 140's. Motor was cool however, under 90 where I
could get a reading. These are Falcon F3A packs. 5000 Mah or so running a
Hacker C50 14 XL and APC 22x12, Jeti acro 90 controller.

Today I attached the Hyperion E-Meter and obtained the following readings at
full throttle 75.8 amps, 2500 something watts, and 32 something volts. (I
lost the held readings)
When new with the same size prop my numbers were 70.9 amps, 33.81 volts and
2399 watts.

The plane still has plenty of power. Are those numbers still in the range
of normal? Is this increase of 5 amps at full throttle normal, too high, or
am I just flying at high throttle more than I was?
Thanks,
