Good Input Dave, I just thought it would be fun, to add another day of flying for the advanced guys.

Robert,
Round about answer...
Picking the best pattern flyer in the world (F3A World Champs) is difficult - how do you compare 100+ flyers over a range of weather conditions and how well can judges maintain a standard over the course of 100 flyers? Ergo, a format which will "thin" the group a bit...and the addition of a more difficult sequence which will provide more distinction/separation.
In the US..there is a desire to have F3A at the national level mimic the World Champs to give practice to the pilots and judges..and with the combination of the AMA NATs and the Team Trials, there is additional impetus to mimic the WC.
With the size of the Masters and F3A classes at the US NATS, a finals format makes it easier to more directly compare the top flyers. And with the limited timeframe for completing the contest (resulting in the "matrix" system which does not have equal exposure among pilots and judges), it is essential to have a finals where all pilots have equal exposure.
Advanced..logistically, all pilots can fly together and get equal judging exposure. The differences between pilots can be distinguished (the majority of the time) without having to fly a specific finals format.

Wanted to run this past you all to see what your thoughts were on this. We know that Advanced is suppose to prepare you for Masters, what if the advanced at the NATS took a similar route to what the masters does; meaning that the top 8 guys in masters get to fly in a 4 round final. What if advanced had a 3 round final, and the best score was carried over from the previous 4 rounds. I was thinking that this would certainly make things a little more interesting for the Adavnced folks. Questions and comments are welcomed.
TIA
Robert
