[NSRCA-discussion] OS1.40 Idle

Another issue is to discard rpm concerns and set the engine to run smoothly and transition well. I run 20% problend and have great power. I turn the 18.1x10wide about 7400 rpm.

  Thanks Mike

I'm running 30% heli cool power fuel, OS F plug, 17x12 APC, Stock OS header and pipe just installed as it came and never moved it. I was running a 3 blade and I didn't notice this problem as much with that prop. Ken might have an idea as I removed the carb and pump from another engine and installed it on this one but I used new gaskets. I might have not got the O ring pressed tight enough to seal well. Think I'll try to richen up the low end a bit as I've not changed it since I set the engine up when new to get the transition correct. This engine has been a pleasure to run since new. Wish my YS was as friendly. J

  Tim,

  2 things

  1. Your engine and/or idle is too lean. If your exhaust is anything but almost clear-very slight bit of tan, you are too lean.

  2. Set your idle trim on a slider on the tx. and you can idle down for landing. Makes life much better and you have complete control of the idle anytime.

  3. A third possibility is your pipe is too short. I use the Macs header, ES pipe and 2 more inches, whatever that is.

  4. the high idle can also be an indication the engine is getting too hot. Look at all those issues.

  Good luck

  Mike

Morning boys and girls. I hope everyone made it home from the Nats safe and sound.

The subject this morning is the Idle on a OS1.40. I've been flying this engine for awhile now and I can't seem to get the idle to come down to normal during landing. After the flight and set up for landing the idle seems to hang high for about a minute (or it seems that long), The engine will come down to the normal idle eventually but stays very high then is slowly slows down to normal. Is this an indication that I've got the engine too lean on the bottom? This makes landing as well as spin entry very interesting. J

Any one else had this problem and come up with a solution?

    Tim
