I help a friend to put together the Abbra powered by the ZDZ 40 non F3A. The plane is two or three oz over 11 lbs. This are my experience with this set up. Initially my friend didn't want to use soft mount. I tried to convinced him with not good results. The engine was hard mounted. As the result the aileron fluttered really bad. He was lucky and we were able to save the plane. After that bad experience, we installed the soft mount the reduction of noise and vibration was evident. The plane is about 11 lbs 5 oz. It has a three blade prop (Biela) that is very heavy. Just replacing the prop with a lighter prop will bring the weight down below 11 lbs. Of course replacing the engine with the F3A version also will help a lot. I flew the plane during the trimming process. Very nice breaking. The up lines were a little lazy but I believe that using different props will fix the problem. I believe that this combination is very good for someone that loves gas engines and want
to try pattern. We flew this plane about 12 times. The engine is very easy to start and adjust. I am not really sure if this combination will work in Master and or F3A since the power/weigh ratio of gas engines is really bad. I have the opportunity to build Abbras using glow 2C (OS160), glow 4C (YS160DZ) and electric. The weights are 9 lbs15 oz, 9 lb 14oz, and 10 lbs 14 oz respectively. The YS and electric versions are equipped with two LiPO 910 mah batteries and the plane all planes have wheels pants. After this experience, I can say that weight penalty of gas engines compared with glow is minimum about 1 lb.

NOTE: THE ABBRA GAS IS ON SALE NOW. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED SEND ME AN E-MAIL TO vicenterc at comcast.net

I bought one as soon as they hit the shore. I have bench tested it and it runs great. It is now installed in an Aeroslave Symphony. Painted, with all gear installed in the fuselage, ES pipe, 21X10 PT prop, carbon fiber spinner, Hyde Mount, minus Wings or stabs, it weighs in at 7lbs 11oz. It should be well under the limit when fully assembled. I think to keep it light one must look to a kit that is light to begin with. I do not think you will find a lighter, stiffer fuselage on the market than the Aeroslave kits. If course you have to build it yourself. Unfortunately work has kept me from getting it finished (stabs need to be covered). As soon as there is time it will get finished and flown. I intend to write a review for the K-Factor so watch for it in the dist. eight column.
Also if you go to RCUniverse, Dick Hansen has been testing the same motor for a while now with good results. He is currently building a plane to put it in that is newer than his test plane. It is in the pattern forum.

I was just surfing the rcshowcase website, and saw where they have stated the 40RE F3A engine has arrived and they are now shipping. Has anyone purchased one of these yet? I'd like to find out how well they run.
