Hey, I got a really cool shirt out of the deal!!!  Even has my name on it.  Only cost me $2119.09....  not including the second receiver that I needed anyway.

    I started with keeping up with the Futaba Flyers Club Forum where the problem initially became public.  Even in the forum they were "NOT" recommending to cut the antenna.  Then all of a sudden they said that if you were still having issues with glitches, to try cutting the length to exactly 21.6" from the case.  That should solve to problem with excess noise.  The next thing they are discussing is that this receiver was designed sensitivity with reguards to reception....  cutting the antenna to the desired length "should" resolve the problem with picking up excessive noise, which was causing the hold problem in the first place.  If you look at the forum now, they are discussing at length that all the antennas are coming in the shortened 
    antenna version.  Go figure!!!!  All the talk on the forum has entry after entry of guys who cut their antenna and all the problems went away....

    One of the other things that came from Japan was mounting the receiver crosswise in the fuse, running the antenna wire on over to the fuse, then running back along the side.  This apparantly gives a better cross section of antenna reception from all angles.  Supposedly, helps with doing away with possible blank spots...

      Yes, the Futaba site is interesting reading.  Last time I looked, they still say "don't cut the antenna unless you are having a problem".  Taken another way and not a quote from Futaba, "don't cut the antenna until you crash".  Which I did due to lockouts.

      My personal opinion is they stick to the original design instructions because admitting they had a design error would mean........well.......   admitting they had a design problem.  However, they ship all new receivers with a short antenna, go figure.

      I have been a long time Futaba customer, and I love my 14MZ transmitter, however, the 5014 rx situation has left a bad taste in my mouth. I cut the antenna and have been flying the original 5014 in a test plane but am having a bit of a problem convincing myself to put it back in my pattern plane.

        I've used the R5014DPS receiver in 3 different planes now with no problems. 
        I did not measure the length of the antennae wire prior to installation. 
        Both my rx'es have the same length antennae, maybe later tonight I can 
        remove 1 and measure it's length.  You will notice a difference, at least in

        a well setup pattern plane going from 1024 to 2048 resolution.  I also 
        noticed the 40% better update rate Futaba claims over the 9Z radios.  Other 
        than the too soft factory stick springs and still too soft factory Futaba 
        "stiff" springs for the 14mz, I'm very happy with it.  I ended up installing

        stick springs from a 9Z radio to get the feel I was looking for.  I do not 
        have the part number as I ordered them from Futaba some time ago but I do 
        remember they were replacement springs for the 9Z.  I also purchased a 
        genuine Sony NP-F570 battery and have used it for both programming and 
        flying and can record no difference in charge times, Tx on times, etc.  The 
        14mz is a battery hog in programming mode with the backlight on for the 
        screen, mine will take the battery from 100% to 30% in about 50 minutes if 
        solely programming.
