The output of an iPod is as good as its input. If you have a poor  
quality recording or encode it in a poor bitrate it will sound bad no  
matter what you play it on. If you have a good recording it will sound  
as good as any cd. I play my iPod through a set of
Paradigm studio refrence monitors and the quality is as good or better  
than most other sources. The problem with vinal is that they sound  
great the first time played,  but on the fiftyth playing the digital  
(cd or iPod or whatever) still sounds the same
As the first time. The record not so much
