Yes. See:

Look at the MP3 sequence caller link at the op of the page. This uses
generic mp3 players, not an IPOD. You can get generic players for
about $20, which use removable SD memory cards. I've modified a couple
of players to do this similar to what Kelly did on the linked page. it
works, although you have to get used to it. Some players work better
than others to modify, and you have to be willing to do board level
soldering on very small devices in order to do it. I would not try it
on an actual IPOD; just too small and too expensive if you screw up.
These generic players are cheap enough that you aren't out much money.
I set mine up to call patterns and reminders both from left to right
and right to left. Each manuever has to be a separate "song", so you
can forward thru them one at a time. Since the players are designed to
play one song, then play the next, you have to put long periods of
silence at the end of each maneuver so it won't play too qucikly, and
you can use the button to go to the next manuever when you are ready.
It is one more thing to hassle with when you are getting ready to fly.
Doesn't take the place of a real caller/coach, but it will do when you
are trying to learn a new pattern.

Is anyone using an Ipod to replace a caller. Now it's an on-list
discussion (for practice use).
