I use the same 1400mah (I think) Sanyo NiCd that I use in receiver packs. Light, rugged & easy to charge.

It seems to be time to replace the battery in my Pro Driver 2 glow plug lighter. What batteries fit? Should I use NiCd or NiMh? Is there a source that knows what I need?

The original batteries in the Pro Driver II were 1300 mah Sub C Nicads. However they are pretty big for that capacity by today's standards. You can open it up and solder in a higher capacity replacement pack from a lot of sources, including Radio South.

One I like is Battery Space. You can get an 1800 mah Sub C 4.8 volt pack here: http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3739
It is the same size as the original 1300 mah pack and has a lot more capacity.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can get still more capacity and make up your own pack from these individual 2100 mah Sub C cells: http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=273
