[NSRCA-discussion] Brio Hinges

I could tell they are serious about Powerboat racing on the River--they had
permanent bleachers on the banks. Hmm, kinda like Reno with permanent
bleachers on the runway....

Dean,
You are right; this is one of the most beautiful areas I have seen. On a
warm summer day (it can get in the 100s and stay for weeks) the Columbia
River is full of boaters and skiers. There is great fishing only five
minutes from my house. As far as Hanford containment, it is progressing at
the usual government pace. The best hope at the current time is the
verification plant, which will turn the high level radioactive waste to
glass to contain it from contaminating. It is overrun by over budget and
under funding just like everything the government does. As far as I know the
river is still ok. We don't glow in the dark like everyone thinks but we
like to tell them we do.

Hi Dennis,
Despite the non-ideal site setup for Pattern, the couple of weeks I spent in
the Tri-Cities area was great.
The whole notion of waterfront, high desert and hills all within sight of
each other makes for a beautiful area.
How's the Hanford containment project going? Is the river still in jeopardy?

Richard,
It was 1989 and was held in the Tri-Cities WA. Pattern was at the Kennewick
Airport on an old runway. (It is now gone) That was the year the wind blew
so hard and the dust and sand was so bad everyone was wrapping their engines
in rags to keep the sand out. I live in Richland, which is part of the
Tri-Cities, and have some not so great video of that event. I wasn't flying
pattern back then but took a week off from work to attend several of the
Nat's events.

Dean,
What year was the Wash. state Nats(Yakima) that most of our radios wouldn't
work? '89? Maybe? It was about the only year I was even half-way
competitive--bummer...

Hi Rich,
During the "Great Toledo Gang Build" of '87 we set off the smoke alarms in
the hotel with the CA fumes!
Remember that Mike?

I got 'hooked' on RC and Monocoted my first airplane(orange/yellow-looked
like crap) in '67 in the dorm. My neighbors(and room mate) routinely
bitched about the odors coming from that room...

'Bout the mid-late sixties, I can remember Mom showing Dad and myself how to
monokote a corner properly,
before we figured out that working with a clothes iron would build strong
muscles!
Seems she was frustrated watching us mess up.

I was around then. Didn't invent It though. I did get chewed out for using
my wife's iron to apply Mono-Cote and Cover All.
