[NSRCA-discussion] Some more lipo fire videos

Even charging at 2 and 3C (I do this on 3s 2100's) they dont get warm....maybe 5C warmer but no where near what they get while flying.
Over-voltage (the main cause of fire while charging) protective circuits are a far more reliable way to shut down a charge...as well protecting cells from serious damage. By the time they get hot enough to set off your thermal device you are probably already dangerously close to enough voltage for a fire....and your packs would be completely toast even if the charge was terminated.
There are now a number of balancers/balancing chargers that incorporate some form of charger shutdown/interruption for over-voltage....Schulze, Orbit, TP, Hyperion just to name some.

It may depend on the charge rate. I charge my 2100s @ 2A and they don't =
even
get warm and the Elite, with temp probe, has never shut down.

Vicente,
I believe with Li-Poly you would be pass the point of no return if the
batteries got warm enough to do the thermal shut off. I may be wrong.

I am new in using LiPo. I started with small foamy just to learn about
e-power. I am using the Elite Charger that monitors the battery
temperature. I bought the sensors and I am using when charging the =
LiPo.
The sensors shots down the charging if the temperature goes over a set
point. My question to the experts: Is the temperature sensor safe to
monitor LiPO charging? I am charging only at the field on my trailer. =
I
put the batteries over a ceramic title. Now I am using 640 mah =
batteries
but planing to use 2100 mah in my new Brio. After watching those tapes
looks like I need to get something better to place the batteries. =
Probably
I need to install a fire place in my trailer. Better ideas?
=20
I don't think that many guys out there seat down and watch the charging
process. We can get distracted very easy. It is really boring to keep
looking a battery charging. The industry has to come with better ideas =
to
monitor this process and do something intelligent automatically to =
prevent
accidents. I think temperature sensors is a good idea.

We've
