I think the influencing factors to THIS incident were:
1. Contest morning, Trying to get in a warm up flight.
2. Flying real early in the morning with the Sun off the downwind
end of the Runway. The Sun had not had enough time to get Up & Behind
the flight line.
3. Florida Sun is REAL Bright...
4. When the plane flew into the Sun his eyes did not recover in
time.
Most of the Contest fliers I know have flown with the Sun in an
Undesirable position. Some are really good @ Sunspots.
Like an Automobile Accident, sometimes you just look up & it's too
late. Plus some times your eyes/Reflexes respond different than @ other
times.
I also saw a couple guys with Sunshades attached to there glasses on
the downwind side most all day.
To say you don't understand is about like saying:
I don't understand how someone could PULL instead of PUSH! We all
have done it if you fly long enough.
BTW:
Saturday night dinner on Pensacola BEACH was AWESOME!!!! (Great scenery
also ;-) )
You see there is a GREAT benefit to real bright Sun!

Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] Flying into the sun????????????????
The other day, I noticed a post about a pilot that flew into the sun and
lost his plane. I think it was the Pensacola contest. I've been flying
for a long time, and have never flown even near the sun. Why and how is
that possible, I just don't understand how anyone could do such a thing.
Thanks, Ben....
