[NSRCA-discussion] Carbon wing tube question

I'm taking the liberty of sending this alternate method which I thought
was really slick from Todd Schmidt awhile back.... Chris

Need a tool less way to attach wings? I use a threaded end rod
protruding out of the wing root in the center of the airfoil. Screw a
Sullivan spring-loaded ball joint on the end and clip them onto the
balls mounted on the inside of the fuselage . No stress on the
fuselage sides, no need to drill wholes in the tubes, best of all, no
tools needed to attach your wings. Simple, fast, positive!

Todd Schmidt

After drilling the hole I take some little layers of 1/64" ply and CA
into
position, which easily bend to make the curve (2 or 3 pieces), then
drill
and tap. I hate to buy an expensive carbon tube, just to add weight to
it.

John
I use pvc pipe. Cut a 1/2 inch piece that is just bigger than the tube,
then
cut a slot lengthwise so it will compress and push it into the end of
the
pipe. Align with hole in the wing and drill and tap for 4-40.Done
If the tapped hole wears out just rotate the pvc and redrill and tap
again.
