[NSRCA-discussion] Axiom

So, the wing is actually .5 pos to the stab. Very similar to most pattern models. What is the engine thrust? Do you have the vertical fin at the cg like your ealier voodoos? Would you say that your fuse shape has a "stearing" effect in knife edge that would require the wing to be set at a negative measured to the centerline of the fuse? Interesting. I have heard of some models needing negative incidence to fly right, whereas some need positive. Great topic. Terry

  Terry,
I can see where my post was confusing. The fuselage is symmetrical. The wing and thrustline are at 0.4 deg neg to the fuse C/L and the stab is 0.9 deg neg to the C/L.

It is not readily apparent that it is flying tail low. The "incidence" of the fuse produces the pitch to gear moment, when yawed, needed to balance the lift "down" force of the stab in KE.

Wouldn't that mean that the wing is still positive? How does the fuse look flying by? Does it fly tail low, or is it level? At this point, what is the thrust set at? If it is set at zero in relation to the fuse centerline, wouldnt that mean it has positive thrust in relation to the wing and stab? Wouldnt you get the same effect by setting the stab at zero, and the wing at .1 positive, and the thrust at.........? What effect does your fuse shape have on the aerodynamics that creates these settings? Interesting topic, lets hear more. Thanks, Terry

The stab is a negative 0.5 deg to the wing

        Hi Nat,
I am a 4-fingered typist, and even so I manage to write a whole bunch of stuff: both toy airplane and during the day-job. It works.
So what do you figure causes the stab to see the right effective AOA?
This is only the second airplane I have heard of that flies with a negative wing vs stab incidence.
Have any of the Expresses trimmed zero-zero?

I'm honored. I think I can get Eddie to send a picture in a day or two.

BTW another question that would be appropriate for the Quiz would be " why does the VooDoo Express, which appears symmetrical, not go to the canopy (ahem) in KE. THe answer is that it is not symmetrical. The wing is 0.4 deg negative to the fuse center line.

Some months ago you expressed the opinion that we might solve the trim mysteries if "we" got our heads together. I was hesitant to initiate a discussion via E, since I'm a one finger typist<G>. Looks like the only way, though.
                                             Regards Nat

Axiom ... now there's a good name for a Pattern ship.
Hey Nat, do you have any high resolution digital pix of the latest Express? I'd like to use one in this month's (okay, March's) FM.

You get the most penetration with CA when you don't want it.
