Peter,
You don't want to have our weather. It is just above freezing,
raining, fogy and just downright misserable. I trade you anytime.
On the blue glue type substance you found on the pot assembly
it could be the blue Loctite, which is used a lot on model car assemblies.
This is what I use as well for engine mounting srews. It will stop the
srews from coming loose through fibration, but will let you remove them
without any problem. The red Loctite is designed to be more permanent.
You can get it at you LHS that deals in model cars.
