Ed (Alt),
I used the contest location as a platform to make a bigger
point. (Did not set out to bash your contest).
The bigger point is that not everyone stays in hotels because of the cost. I
see folks in tents at contests. Rather them than me, but I salute their
fortitude and spirit. If a person has invested in a RV or camper or trailer
and that helps them make it to a contest, then they should not be put down
because they are looking for camping at the contest site. (The AMA has
developed its site to encourage this type of attendance).
Staying at a cheap or scruffy motel may be OK for a single guy, but most of
the couples that I know need to treat their wives/partners to better
accommodation than that. A lot depends, of course, on your personal
standards. Trailers that I have seen are very nice inside. Well appointed
and tend to encourage a higher degree of socialization at the site.
As the ages of our contestants increase you might just see an increase in
RV's at contests. If camping is not available on site, it may well be a good
idea for CD's to add more campground info to their contest flyers, in the
same way as they include hotel phone numbers locations etc.
If I was wrong to use the Pocono site to make a point, I apologize.
Regards,
Eric.
