[NSRCA-discussion] Flight conditions?

Hey Peter and Glen,

I had no idea that you could set conditions to the % of stick travel. That's pretty cool. That might do what I want to do, and I wouldn't even have to remember a switch. Thanks for the input.

You better watch out, Jim.

Thanks,
Emory.

  Hello Emory,

Seeing that you are using the Futaba WCII TX instead of the traditional trigger method of using a switch to turn on a snap condition, try mapping the snap condition to either the elevator or aileron stick to turn on when you reach 90% of up or down and left or right stick position. This way the condition is only engaged when the stick is between 90% to 100% position thus eliminating the need of throwing a switch for snaps.

Now the condition parameters used for snaps is a completely different topic. For the current Masters sequence the following parameters are a good starting point.

  - Elevator expo goes to zero (I have heard others use positive expo) The result is the elevator quickly pops to full deflection aiding in rapidly changing the aircraft's angle of attack forcing a stall

  - 2 degrees increase of up elevator travel (est. 8 to 10) will differ by aircraft design

  - Reduced rudder throw (est. 45 to 35 degrees) will differ by aircraft design and preferred snap rotational speed

  - Throttle increases slightly over idle

Besides eliminating the need to throw a switch this enables the pilot to operate the aircraft in a normal flight condition right up to the moment when the snap is executed. In addition the instant the snap is completed (TX stick moves past the trigger point) the flight condition returns to normal. In my mind this greatly increases the ability to manage lines flown before and after the actual snap without having to react/adjust to something other than normal throws and expo used to aid in snap execution.

Alright, since it's kind of quiet today, let me see if we can get some discussion going. Up until now, I have been flying without using any kind of dual rate or flight conditions. My theory was that the less stuff I had to flip on the TX, the better. I just dialed in a fair amount of expo to try and keep it smooth.

In Ocala this year, Jason Shulman was flying my 1st Black Magic, may it rest in pieces...I mean peace. He felt that I was giving up a lot by not having reduced throws to make things smoother and using dual rates or conditions for snaps and spins. So, I am getting ready to set up my radio for a snap flight condition. My question is what kinds of tricks or changes do you use for this other than the obvious increase in throws? I am using a Futaba 9WCII and I am currently flying masters.

  Thanks in advance,

  Emory Schroeter.
