[NSRCA-discussion] Inadvertent Start

Well, it could be my Angels Shadow-E that you're thinking of Jeff. I do
have an arming plug that consists of the fusible link from an 80A car
fuse. Just before I fly I plug it in to arm the prop and it's the first
thing that I have my helper remove after I land. Someday I will do some
experiments with slightly lower rated fusible links because I believe
that the time to blow for the 80A link is a little long! It might be
that 60A is better.

A little extra safety is a good thing I think!

At the Nats, a D7 Masters pilot, John ?, had a fusible link that he used
to arm his plane. I'm not familiar with them, but it was similar to an
automotive fuse. He would just pull it off and put it in his pocket. If
I remember right it was rated at 60A.

Agree, a mechanical/electrical connection sort of thing would seem best.
And have it located to be easy for all to see.

I personally witnessed an instance of electric starting unexpectedly at
the Nats. Since I was only around Masters & FAI I believe it safe to
dismiss the problem as lack of experience.

I feel it essential to implement some kind of safety device to prevent
this from occurring. I would prefer a mechanical lockout of some sort or
at least an arming plug.

The airplane was being carried back to the pits when the failure
occurred. The handler was on top of the problem but it could have
happened after the plane was parked.

It is a disaster waiting to happen.

Another reason to go electric.

I have an $8000 left thumb. They installed a couple of options while
they were rebuilding. It warns of weather changes and also serves as an
alarm clock (sometimes).

I recommended that a student headed for a pro basket ball career give up
RC until the career was behind him.

About two years ago I got my finger in one It cut the right index finger
off at the first joint. Wrapped the finger in a towel went to the
hospital with the severed finger, three month's and $6000.00 later it
was almost as good as new except it is still numb on the end. APC's show
no mercy.
