I have actually broken a fiberglass gear. It came on a Focus years back. I
carefully pieced the gear back together meshing the break as close as I
could and saturated the break with thin CA, The CA was totally absorbed in
the stringy glass fibers,and I continued to use the gear.I think it was
stronger than before.
You just have stress cracks it sounds like and this might work for you.It's
worth a try.
