Guys, thanks for all the kind words. We have a lot of fun putting on this event. It's going to take a whole lot more than some childish club politics to stop a group of pattern pilots from doing what they love to do most.

Ken, as for your son Kenny, and the foamy. It is my pleasure to get yet another youngster in the air. I think you were being just a little modest on his flying abilities. For those of you that don't know Kenny, he is a wonderful kid, and is a pleasure to have around. He will be kicking all of our butts very soon, and I am looking forward to it. I really hope that Kenny has many hours of fun with his new foamy. Now just to clear up the reason for Kenny's first crash with his new foamy. He did a snap roll, that caused the battery pack to fly out off of the plane, that is why it crashed. It was not because of his piloting skills.

I can not wait until the we do this again next year. This year makes 4 years in a row that My wife and I have been putting on the pattern contest, and we look forward to many more years of doing so. We have a great field now that is only going to get better. This is not a club, so no politics. No voting on whether or not we will be able to hold the event. Just a bunch of guys getting together and having fun flying toy airplanes.

Many, many thanks to those that helped out this past weekend. This is an impossible task to take on all by yourself, with that being said everybody knows who they are that helped. I think that everybody did a little something. For those of you that were able to take home an award this year, I am sure you will enjoy them. I don't think these ones will be packed away in a box. I would put money down saying that even Verne won't pack his away in a box.

Check out the D4 website for contest results @ www.nsrcad4.com

Thank you,

Mike Darr

I would like to echo Ken's comments. We sincerely appreciate all of the hard work and sacrifice that the CDs put into hosting a contest. Mike did a great job and I will make sure that I am in attendance when the second annual East rRiver pattern contest is held!

For all who couldn't make it, it was a great time. We had a lot of laughs! Of particular interest was hearing everyone rooting and the thunderous cheers that went up when the tricycle geared 60 powered Legend Five (I think) finally struggled into the air leaving a roostertail of puddle spray inits wake.

Oh yeah, it was also great to watch planes splash down on re-entry!

  Thanks again
  Mike

    Hi all,

I'd like to take a minute to thank Mike Darr and all who helped put on a great contest this past weekend.
After an issue with the previous venue, Mike spent a lot of time finding another site to hold his annual contest.
Wednesday's rain caused a few puddle issues, but nothing we couldn't work around, don't know about the rest of the group, but I had a blast!!

Saturday night was the usual BBQ at Mike's house, food was outstanding as usual, and the beer was cold, yes, cold and very tasty, thank you very much.

I brought an addition to my crew, my 15 year old son. He has the plane set-up, fueling and calling down pat, now if he could only drive to get lunch all would be handled;-)

All who were there on Saturday saw my son take his first solo flight on ANY PLANE. He is self trained on the G2 Simulator, and flew a trainer on a buddy box twice, no takeoffs or landings. Mike gave my son his old foamy, an Extra 260 designed my Verne Koester, and asked,"Do you want to fly?"

Kenny said, "Sure!!". Mike took the plane out to the yard and launched it in the air, flying it around for a minute or 2. He handed the transmitter to Kenny and I thought, "Aww shoot, here it goes". Myself and the others witnessed my son fly his first foamy, and he flew it well!! He flew it around, threw in a few rollers, short ones and also a few short hovers!! I was in awe, to say the least. In the end, he put it in on the second pack, nothing major, just a little glue and it's all good.
This was the first time I've ever witnessed, personally, someone fly without ever being taught. To think it was my son, well, proud doesn't do the feeling justice.

Thanks again for everything, Mike, it won't be forgotten.

Great contest, lots of fun, good food and I took another second place, gee, what a surprise:-)
