Mail List Changes

Hi Guys,

This topic is interesting. I would have to agree with the lads sofar. I have been a member of this list since it began many years ago ( and its previous incarnations). I can only remember a handful of problems over those years and they were swiftly dealt with.

Like most- I usually lurk in the background, and yes I have a delete button, which I use. I must admit that the list can sometimes get me through an otherwise dreary day here at work. Yes it actually can provide entertainment-even if it is at someone else's expense- I still get a laugh out of Troy's credit card emails for example. Gray( who is very quiet these days???) provides laugh a minute e-mails.

I must also say that I have 'met' many wonderful people on this list whom I would gladly welcome into my home should they ever visit our shores.

So basically what I am trying to say is..... from down here the list doesn't look 'broken'..why 'fix' it?

I suppose change is always inevitable, I guess I'll remain a member of this list (whatever form it is in) for as long as I am welcome.

Best regards from the land of Oz

Tom

I agree with Dave.

The guys that send the off-topic banter aren't doing it by accident, they're
doing it knowing fully well everyone on the list is seeing it. Let's face
it, the majority of the chit chat is from a relatively small number of very
active members. The less talkative members' chit chat doesn't present a
problem.

The active members aren't naive to the way the list works, on the other
hand, if replies only go back to the sender then the less active, and
therefore less aware of how things work, members may never get their posts
out to the list, as Dave has pointed out.

Perhaps a better way to handle this is for the list administrator to
periodically drop a private friendly reminder to those seen sending
off-topic emails. In addition occasional reminders to the list about
off-topic emails and renaming subject lines will help keep everyone inline.
In the past these suggestions have helped quite a bit, until everyone starts
slipping back into their old habits. But then again, that's what an
administrator's for!

PS. I almost messed-up and sent this just to Dave :-)
