ZDZ 50NG for Pattern?

Ed:
Gerry Dale, who used to compete in pattern, had a gasser of his own
design. He tried at least 3 engines in it, as well as structural
modifications, trying to beat the ll lb. weight limit. I believe he
finally made it, just barely. If anybody on this list knows how to get
hold of Gerry, I'd like to know. (For Ed's sake, to keep him from the
re-invention of the wheel)
The airplane appeared in RCM a couple of years ago, in plan form. It
was called l'Essence. I saw it fly quite a few times. Power seemed
adequate, if not overwhelming, as I recall, for Masters class.
If gas prices keep climbing, it's going to be cheaper to fly my Y.S.
engines than a gasser; of course, I won't have enough gas money to get
out of the neighborhood, but that's another problem.
