I have been running 5 cell 1650 Nimh for the last 2 yrs (NoBs brand
from Hangtime Hobbies) and they have been excellent. I ran them w/
Jaccio 5.7V regulators. Be careful with peak chargers though as some
cheaper ones don't relaibly detect peak and will cook the packs if you
are not monitoring it. - cooked 2 packs w/ a Hobbico fast field charger
MkII. In August, I switched to Li-ion 2400 packs from Fromeco. (same
Jaccio regulator). More capacity and less weight. I have no empirical
evidence, but I believe the airplane just "locks" better and stops more
reliably in snaps and spins. Apparently the voltage drop w/ the NiMh
was enough to affect the servos' holding power. I used a Triton to
charge the Li-ion pack and just got a Fromeco charger to charge multiple
Li-ions at once -for my big gasser to charge my 2 packs at the same time.
