Alan is still on dial up. He lives way out in the country. No cable available.

  Alan,
Are you using High speed broadband or Dial up for access to the internet? RCU is probably one of the fastest major boards on the net. For me in Alaska, I am on a High speed DSL 512 K connection. It takes approx 8 to 10 seconds to do the initial site load then 3 to 5 sec to load a single board.

The following is a documentation of my experience: Please be patient.....there is a point to this.

I do not have an opinion yet about RCU because I have never been on it.......SO.....I just went to www.rcuniverse.com and waited three and one half minutes for the home page to download. I then clicked on new member login in to spend another minute to download that page......no problem. I entered my email address twice as required and clicked "next".........opinion started a little now. It took three times refreshing that screen before it would go through without saying "script error".......NOW I'M REALLY IMPRESSED.
Ok, now I am registered. Now I choose "Express" or "Custom" registration. It tells you that one can customize and the other you cannot. That would be great if I knew what was in there so I knew whether I would need to customize something or not.......GETTING MORE IMPRESSED
NOW I AM REGISTERED.......30 MINUTES LATER.
I now went back to the RCU home page to log in and waited only two and a half minutes this time for it to download. I now find out that I am already logged in........HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? I OPENED A NEW SCREEN TO DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, now what......I searched the word "Pattern"......got five results that were not in the section of someone trying to sell something and FOUR of them were about someone trying to sell something and the other was an interview with Jason.
Now I am really bored (and disappointed)
IF ANYONE IS WONDERING WHY PATTERN IS DYING, CALL ME

I tend to use the RCU forum as a general pattern forum. It has the best functionality that I have tried.

If the NSRCA invested in it's own forum it could have a public section and a members part of the forum. Publicity is paramount.

    Regards,

    Eric.

The suggestion was to consider using RCU as the official forum for the NSRCA SIG. The point wasn't that RCU currently has more discussion than this list (though lately it seems to).

If we used RCU as the official NSRCA forum there would be more content on RCU and we'd have better tools to carry out our discussions. In addition we would have more exposure to non-pattern fliers that may be interested in what we do..

I'd sure like to know what you find concerning."Pattern" on RCU or RCG. In the Pattern forums on RCU there are agonizingly few each day.
