OS-140 bearing question

Wiggling the prop is my standard bearing health check.
If you can detect any play (fore and aft) in the prop
tips of a cold motor, it is time to order a new
bearing. I can usually detect play in the bearing
before any symptoms show up in performance. Most
pilots are skeptical of the test because "it still
runs ok". By the time the performance starts to
suffer, the bearing is pretty well shot, and you are
risking damage to the conrod, the crank is now moving
in a conical path instead of pure rotation. If you let
it go further, the bearing can throw a rivet
(depending on construction of the race) or spin in the
case, at which point you have much more expensive
problems.
