Measuring incidence

It's on a flying air frame and the stab adjustment bolts came loose on one side. It's also carrying a bit of left aileron trim and I'm just trying to get everything back to square one. I'm not sure on which way to adjust the stab bolt, I had a 50/50 chance and when those are the odds I'm wrong 95% of the time. :)

<gulp> here goes: I'vwe done it two ways:

  1. Measure the incidence of the stab itself without the elevators mounted -- with either with a meter or with center lines on the stab LE and TE.

  2. If the elevators are mounted lock them in neutral with tape, sticks, etc, and measure away.

Can't wait to hear other solutions to this!
