Sword 2M ARF

Yes, DEFINITELY a market of "caveat emptor". But there are GOOD ones,
also....The Icepoint, Dream 110, the Excelleron, Quest, Swallow - then the
World models Tai Jai's and Zens'.... all very good, with their own quirks,
but for the most part, high quality, exceptional pattern mounts.

And then, there's my current favorite - the Arresti....lots of improvements
(and yes, they WERE needed from the original version) and is a really fine,
LEGAL airframe (as are the others listed).

If we look at how BAD all these were just 3 years ago, and how limited the
choices of "real" pattern planes were, things are LOOKING up!!!!

Well that's why it didn't cost a lot. That's been my experience with many of
the low cost "Asian" ARFs. They look like pattern planes, but some of the
construction is well, quite frankly, horrid. If you factor in your time to
fix these things, a Focus 2 becomes quite reasonable. Don't forget about the
hardware. Most of that needs to be replaced too. Just my opinion of course.
We should keep track of which of these are OK and which are total losers so
guys don't waste money. I guess the Sportsman Aviation (Excelleron) is
pretty good, and The World Models Groovy series are nice, but you do need to
give them a close look during assembly. I've seen wing tube mounts on a
Black Horse Bravo that were only glued with one drop of glue. I found this
after it let go and the wing got loose. Epoxied in now - no problem.
Generally the problems are usually: Lack of glue, improper alignment and
lack of strength in critical areas. Other than that... I guess if you have
some spare time and don't want to spend a lot of money, they're OK. All
depends on what you think your time is worth.

I got one the other week, Couldn't beat the price.
The only problem with mine was the stab halves weren't lined up, looking
from the top view, so I'm gonna have to put in a different stub tube to get
things lined up.

Just got my “SWORD” in the mail today. Very nice is my first impressions.
I have yet to put a laser to it or weigh parts but… The landing gear has
got to go along with the pretty wheel pants. VERY HEAVY. Also the cowl is
heavy fiberglass, might be able to mold a new one out of CF or something.
I will let you know as I get into it further.

Might start a thread on RCU if I can find the time, maybe Inchenol can team
up with me on this eh buddy?

More to come

Chuck
