NB Engineering..now Challenge

  I'm not very experienced, but I will volunteer to document (somewhat doing so now...) construction of my new plane...

  I know another local pattern flier who is just starting to build a Nat Penton Voodoo....Richard???...

  I suggested this before ( to some degree), I'd like to see a plan's feature..say every quarter in the K-Factor? This would ofcourse be dependent on the number of OD planes out there. But as ( I think) Mike mentioned, there are more wooden aircraft out there than people think. We just need to encourage designers to come out of the woodwork( pardon the pun). 
  The problem I have always had with this is purely 'confidence'......CRIKEY... for fear I might get burnt at the stake because some joker cant trim,build, or my model MIGHT require a tiny mix...blah blah blah...and so on.

  Gentlemen...designing a model is not that hard. Designing a good one is ofcourse different story. But show me one 'NAME' who drew up the perfect plane, let alone a good one first up. They are all an evolution of sorts. 
  Just imagine the skills that would  suddenly re-appear or be re-learnt once people put the 'modelling' back into pattern..a frightening thought<VBG> But I guess this is a sad reflection of the society in which we live. NO time available to do anything properly these days ......and this instant gratification thing going on just drives me nuts.

  OK...I'll put up/out a challenge....

  I will do a plans feature and article for the K-factor of my new Merlin ( as I build it). PROVIDING we can get at least THREE others do do the same. That will take care of 12 months worth of K-Factors. I will also NOT entertain any negative aspects such as..the plan needs more detail, or this thing is a DAWG etc. I can only do my best at the time. So.... STIFF....unfortunately this is the attitude I have to take to muster up enough courage to put my *ss on the line!!.
  I'll do this purely because I LOVE pattern...and I don't care where in the world you are...pattern is pattern...and I too want to promote its growth.

  So..... the plans will be hand drawn...if you want CAD, then I will need a volunteer...and no.... there is no MONEY in it!!!

  I await with baited breath for other volunteer designers!

  PS: Again my apologies for rambling on..but this whole thing of manufacturers ( good or bad) going to the wall upsets me!

    I agree TOTALLY! It's so GREAT to hear good stuff like that, I only wish more people would support these kind of guys, and not just because Flier X flies one....

    Another good point was brought to my attention today. Mike Harrison has been flying his own stuff for years, as has Bryan Hebert. No they haven't won the worlds yet, but they do rather well wouldn't you say? And they did it without marching to the beat of someone else's drum. Neither of them get enough credit. This is the kind of stuff that drives me.

    I wish more people would compete with and do well with North American and (well supported!) designs. Or thier own stuff. Whatever it takes to break the stranglehold of the european kit makers. Just to shake things up and bring people back to reality. 

    Think about this: what happens if a japanese guy starts cleaning house at the worlds again? You know they fly wood planes over there, and they do quite well too.....what then? 

    It's a subject that could be beaten to death (and has been....guilty as charged). But it's a large enough issue to warrant some discussion, positive and negative.

      On the other end of the scope I want to share an experience from a company who did stand behind their work.  I ordered a Mantis kit and it showed up last month.  Through no fault of Nedim's the fuse was damaged near the horizontal stab.  It was dented and the gel coat was cracked.  I called Nedim and told him what happened, he immediately offered to do whatever it took to fix the situation, offered to send me a new fuse.  I even had a bunch of custom work done on my Mantis, firewall installed and some other things.  The fuse was easily fixed so I did not accept the new fuse offer.  I later found out that for whatever reason he had not insured the shipment.  And even though it would've come out of his pocket, he offered to make sure I was happy.  

       

      Just wanted to share a positive experience from a kit maker, these are the ones we need to take care of.
