As I mentioned earlier, I'm *really* new at this but it seems to me that
at least in the lower classes the gear is not nearly important as the
skills of the pilot.  Restricting what type of gear someone can use to
give pattern a try only thins our ranks IMHO.

In other words, if two newbie sportsmen show up for the first contest of
the year and one took the winter off and has a just test flown 2M
pattern ship and the other has a Falcon 56 that he's been out practicing
with every weekend - my money's on the guy with the Falcon 56;-)

At least that's the way I'm hoping it works!!  ;-)
